What are the fashion-textile worlds that you want to create?  Let’s Play There! 〰️

The Labs are a unique series of explorations that are the accumulation of the past 4 years of PhD research into Plurversal Fashion Futures, an extensive 15+ year background within the fashion-textile design industry and academia, as well as 10+ years spent in personal contemplative and transformational work.

Here, we embrace not-knowing, complexity, and emergence. This isn’t about giving you the answers, finding solutions, or a linear, step-by-step guide toward change-making. Instead, I hope that you will walk away with more questions and different ways to sense into the world and fashion-textiles and then apply these to your context in your authentic way.

The Lab is rooted in Pluriversality, a concept I have been researching and embodying for the past 4 years as part of my PhD research and practice.

Pluriversality is about
opening ourselves up to multiple, diverse, interconnected ways of living and enquiring about the world and, therefore, fashion-textiles. This is about decentering modern-colonial, aka ‘status-quo’ understandings of fashion and sustainability. As such, we will explore concepts usually disconnected from modern fashion-textiles, such as spirituality, animism, ecology, ritual, embodiment, place and so much more.

You can read more about pluriversality here and here.

Each week’s Lab will include a discourse, a ritual practice, a discussion, Q & A, and prompts for further reflection. Each week a new topic of exploration is introduced.
For the duration of the lab, we will have a group chat going, where we can connect and share resources and insights along the way.

The only prerequisites are that you arrive with a sense of
curiosity and adventure, are open to emergence and are detached to outcomes.

This is a space to get curious, learn, connect with others and envision other possibilities forward.

THERE ARE FIVE FOUNDATIONAL ELEMENTS THAT GROUND THE PLURIVERSAL FASHION LAB:

  • PLURIVERSALITY

A diversity of ways of understanding and doing fashion-textiles are explored, embraced & celebrated.

  • PLACE

Place holds us and all of our creations. How do we cultivate intimacy with Place(s), learn to listen and co-create with them?

  • RELATIONALITY

Everything is interconnected through the diverse vibrant web of life.
How does this relational worldview guide us to elicit reverence, reciprocity, and responsibility in how we do fashion-textiles?

  • WHOLENESS

A holistic approach to sustainability integrates Spirit + Heart + Mind + Body.
What does this look like for fashion-textile systems?

  • LIBERATION

How do fashion-textiles authentically and contextually emerge in the world when they are liberated from dogmatic modern systems?

FAQ’S

  • We honour the sacredness of coming together in real-time. Therefore, the labs are there to be experienced live and will not be recorded. If there’s a session you cannot make but have already purchased a ticket, get in touch, and it can be used for another week or passed on to someone else.

  • You do not have to be in the fashion or textile spaces to participate in these labs. However, an interest in garments and the fashion and materials world may enhance your experience. We explore diverse concepts, linking these back to fashion, material culture and making. Therefore, learnings can be applied to other design and creative fields.

  • Some weeks, experiences may allow you to connect to others in the virtual space. When you purchase a ticket, you will also be added to our online group chat community, where you can ask questions and engage with others.

  • No. I only encourage participants to arrive at our sessions with openness and curiosity. This is where magic, learning and connection can occur!

  • If you are financially struggling and cannot financially exchange for this experience yet would benefit from this, please get in touch. We offer a few pay-what-you-can spots for each Lab.

  • You can attend one, several or all Lab sessions. If you cannot attend recordings will be sent out afterward.

  • Yes! In each session, there will be space to ask questions relating to each week’s topics.

  • Pluriversal Fashion Lab is a safe space for humans of ALL identifications, genders, cultural & spiritual beliefs, experiences and worldviews, to explore various diverse topics and viewpoints surrounding fashion. The intention is for this community to be made up of deeply respectful, self-sourced and self-responsible humans.

We all have diverse perspectives, experiences and ways of engaging with the world. We invite everyone to practise leaning into uncomfortable conversations and listening to others with curiosity and openness. In the spirit of pluriversality all viewpoints are welcome, valid and questionable.

No promises can be made about your internal safety, and we trust that you know how to look after yourself if triggered and if various emotions arise during explorations.

We will not always get it right, but we are actively committed to deep listening, integrity and transformation.

No harassment or abuse will be tolerated.

  • Ticket sales are final, so please purchase mindfully.

  • I honour each individual's discernment on when and how much to engage based on personal capacities. You are welcome to come to the labs just to listen, share, and speak. Tune into yourself before each session to see where you are and how comfortable you feel engaging.
